Visibility Machines

This work consists of aluminium profile, printed cotton, camouflage netting, and epoxy. The work is based found photos of women producing camouflage netting during the second world war.

The photos represent some of the first images of women at work as women entered the industrial workforce en masse for the first time during the war. The work plays on the fact that these women are depicted producing camouflage netting, a technology of erasure.
